Beauty & the Beast of an industry
The skincare field is vast and exciting, but to someone starting out for the first time it can be an overwhelming world to navigate. So much information , so many notes. You chose this career , because you were passionate about your interests and wanted to delve into something that moved you. It spoke to your curiosity, and now you’ve embarked on this journey into skin and wax and make-up and all things gorgeous and glitter and glow ! But what they don’t tell talk about often enough, is the other side of that pretty little hill. The emails, the screenshots of random information, the networking, the studying , the experimenting, researching, buying products, buying more products, experimenting again, and the list goes on…and on…and on. In the midst of all of this , you still have to make time for your personal life. Whatever that looks like for you, you may find that there are not enough hours in the day to juggle it in the midst of career building (unless, I suppose, if you have a supportive team of assistants or employees to help out). Just speaking for myself, sometimes the anxiety builds up like a tidal wave and completely takes over. And that’s when I’ve learned that it’s time to take a break , and time to focus on just being in the moment. I know there are others out there who may be experiencing similar feelings and thoughts, and I’d like to document as much of my progress as possible so that you know that you’re not alone! If you’re in school right now and feel like throwing in the towel, I encourage you to hang in there. I had a few set-backs that stretched my 9 month semester all the way out to three years (yikes). There were times I thought I’d never see the end, but eventually I did. If you have already finished school and getting your feet wet , that is an amazing accomplishment. Whether you work for yourself, or someone else, don’t stop learning and always be TEACHABLE. Esthetics is a field that is constantly evolving, and it is impossible to know it all. Keep educating yourself on new modalities and services, safety and sanitation protocols. Keep reading , keep practicing , keep studying. There is a lot to take in, so take it in a little at a time. Just like the skin barrier, we as well need balance and consistency in order to flourish in our healthiest state.
